Express Entry was first introduced by the federal government in January 2015 to replace the old “first come, first served” process of immigration system in Canada. Simply put, Express Entry is an online system introduced to manage Canada’s Permanent Resident applications. The purpose of Express Entry is to help fast-track Canada’s labor market needs by inviting candidates with relevant work experience, credentials and language skills who can integrate, settle and contribute to Canada’s economy.
Candidate’s profiles are ranked against each other in the Express Entry pool of points based system known as Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The points are rewarded based on factors such as age, education, Language proficiency and work experience. Canada’s Express Entry draws are conducted at regular interval and candidate’s with good CRS scores are issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada’s Permanent Residence. The recent draw was conducted on September 16, 2020 and 4200 applicants received an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
Canadian Express Entry operates under following economic class programs:

Federal Skilled Workers Program – Candidates with score of 67 points or above, who possess one year of relevant work experience and meet the language requirements along with settlement funds can be selected for FSWP.
Federal Skilled Trades Program – The program designed to attract qualified skilled trades people who possess minimum of two years of work experience and selected for FSTP.
Canada Experience Class – CEC is a popular pathway for people who have gained at least one year skilled work experience In Canada.
Select streams under Provincial Nominee Program – PNP enables provincial and territorial governments to nominate candidates from the Express Entry pool for Canadian Permanent Residence.
Canadian Express Entry application process
Candidates who meet the basic eligibility criteria may submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Express Entry pool. The eligibility criteria generally include age, education, language proficiency work experience and other factors. The profiles of all candidates are ranked against each other in the Express Entry pool and the highest ranked candidates will be considered for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian Permanent Residence. Candidates who receive Invitation to Apply (ITA) must submit a full application within 60 days. Periodic draws are frequently conducted and the invitations are issued throughout the year.
It is possible that few candidates may not receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Permanent Residence; such candidates need not panic because the profile of candidates will remain in the Express Entry pool for 12 months, thereafter candidates with minimum eligibility criteria may re-submit a new profile.
Candidates who received invitation to Apply
Once the candidate receives an Invitation to Apply (ITA), he/she is obliged to submit all the information claimed on the online application, as well as other documentation. Any misrepresentation of skills or work experience may lead to 5 year ban from applying for Permanent Residence of Canada.
On successful submission of all the relevant documents, the application will be successfully processed within 6 months of receiving the Invitation to Apply (ITA)
