The changes mean that all applications under this category are now subject to an automated assessment process with regard to their eligibility for residence in New Zealand.

Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa and Accredited Employer Work Visa holders must apply for residence after two years of continuous residence in New Zealand. They can apply for residence from within the country or from overseas.

The skilled migrant must be living in New Zealand for five years before applying for residence.

The skilled Migrant category is being replaced with a new streamlined system that will include fewer requirements but will allow anyone who has been living in New Zealand for five years before the application date to apply.
