How Safe is Canada for Immigrants

Canada is among the top countries considered to be ‘safe and stable’ for immigrants and has further improved its position as the ‘go-to’ study / live / work / invest destination because of its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, the survey suggests that countries considered to be ‘safe and stable’ are not necessarily viewed as being ‘open and welcoming.’ However, Canada is one of the top countries that are considered to be both.

In fact, Canada has introduced some measures to allow international students to travel to their desired destination. Students who wish to travel to Canada only need to be attending a college or university that has obtained approval on its COVID-19 readiness plan from the provincial government in which the institution is in. It does not matter where the student is travelling from.

The first survey was conducted in May 2020. Findings from that survey showed Canada as one of the countries who are ahead of the pack, alongside New Zealand and Australia.

Research was repeated in September 2020. Canada had improved its overall position since May, but was now competing with the United Kingdom for the top spot, instead of the Oceanic states.

Along with the federal and provincial programs for immigration that are available, the following are the biggest reasons that make Canada a great place for immigrants.

1. Economy Opportunity

In the wake of an unstable U.S. economy, many immigrants are now looking to other countries for new opportunities. Canada has been ranked as one of the most vibrant and efficient markets for labour.

Canada has the 10th largest economy in the world according to the latest GDP ranking. Though the country has a huge amount of natural resources, the economy is more service-oriented. In fact, more than 75% of Canadians are employed in the service sector according to Statistics Canada.

2. Cultural Diversity

Canada has a strong reputation for its openness to immigrants. There are no anti-immigration political parties. This underscores the progressive attitudes of Canada, and sets it apart from other destinations that immigrants might consider.

Nearly 20% of the population in Canada are of foreign origin which makes it a truly multi-cultural society. Big cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal have significant percentage of immigrant population. The diverse nature of the population indicates the inclusive nature of Canadian society.

This has influenced the world’s view of Canada. A large proportion of the world’s population recognizes Canada as a nation that respects freedoms and individual rights, welcomes immigrants, tolerates differing races and cultures, and offers a high quality of living.

3. Superior Education

Immigrant parents value a high level of education for their children. Canada’s affordable education system has contributed to its appeal to immigrants. It is considered one of the best educational systems in the world, and is easily accessible due to its affordable costs.

For parents immigrating to Canada, the high standards of its education provide future opportunities to their children that they might not otherwise have access to. Canadian diplomas and certificates are viewed by many as equivalent to those of the US.

This has increased the number of immigrant students in the country. It has increased the level of academic talent that Canadian companies look for in their own development efforts, and further stimulates a strong economy.

Immigration to Canada continues to rise, as the world recognizes the many benefits it offers. With a strong economy providing numerous opportunities and a culturally diverse population, many foreign-born citizens have reaped the rewards of immigrating to Canada. Its educational system makes it attractive to immigrants and has laid the foundation for future innovation and progress for all of Canada.

Canada’s Immigration Plan – 2021

We are here with good news!

IRCC has released the details of Canada’s Immigration level plans for the year 2021. Canada Aims to welcome 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021 (this is the highest levels in Canada’s immigration history) and increase the numbers in next 2 years as well.

This news came in late October 2020. However, the recent progress is a sign that Canada is moving towards it’s target of 401,000 and chances are good that Canada will see the required number of migrants moving into the country.

What makes us feel so?

Marco Mendicino (Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship – Canada) Said that 26,600 new permanent residents were admitted in 2021 January.

“Canada is innovating immigration during the pandemic to accelerate our economic recovery and reunite more families,” tweeted Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino in early December.

Express entry draw which took place on 13th Feb 2021 issued a whooping 27,332 invitations. This is the highest ever in Canada’s immigration history.

These are clear indications of Canada’s intention to increase the migration intake.

Canada is maintaining high levels of immigration to offset the negative economic and fiscal impacts of its aging population and low birth rate.

Canada has one of the world’s oldest populations, with nearly 18 per cent of its population being age 65 and over. It also has one of the world’s lowest birth rates at 1.47 births per woman. As such, Canada will face challenges growing its economy and supporting government spending in the future. These challenges can be alleviated by welcoming more immigrants to support labor force and economic growth.

Nearly 60 percent of new permanent residents will come through economic immigration pathways that prioritise skilled workers and their families. This is in line with Canada’s immigration levels plans for the past several years.

“We believe strongly in building Canada through immigration. Immigration is helping us get through the pandemic, and will be the key to both our short-term economic recovery and long-term prosperity,” said Canada’s Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino, in the lead up to releasing the 2020-2023 Immigration Levels Plan.
