Why Canada needs Immigrants?

Hey Readers!

Hope you are keeping safe and doing good.

Immigration can be a major change / breakthrough in your life. It’s a dream for many people to settle in an abroad country with a good job, healthy environment and a luxury lifestyle.

Canada is one of the favorite countries for everyone to migrate. But why is Canada favorite for immigrants? How does the migration population help Canada? Let’s dig into it.

The average age of the population is moving up as life expectancy increases, birth rates decline and the baby boomer generation ages. By 2040, 25 per cent of the population will be at least 65 years old, up from 17 per cent today, according to Conference Board of Canada projections.

That’s not the only reason why Canada need immigrants. They are quite a few. We have listed out few important points here:

  • Immigrants contribute to the economy and create jobs for Canadians

The strength of Canada’s economy is measured in part by the number of people working (known as the labour force) and paying taxes to fund our public services, such as health care.

  • Immigrants deliver and improve our health and social services

Because many immigrants are young and economically active, they contribute more than they receive in benefits over their lifetime.

According to the 2016 Census, more than 335,000 immigrants work in health-related occupations.

  • Immigrants settle in communities across the country

According to the 2016 Census, the number of immigrants settling in small and midsize communities is growing.

Immigration in the Prairies and Atlantic Canada has more than doubled in the last 15 years.

The Government of Canada is promoting Francophone immigration to help Francophone minority communities thrive.

  • Immigrants integrate fully into Canadian society

Immigrating to Canada is an adjustment at first, but with time, immigrant voting rates, sense of belonging and earnings match those of Canadians.

Canada has one of the highest naturalization rates in the world. About 85% of newcomers become citizens.

There are also some reasons why Immigrants feel Canada is a welcoming place and safe to live in.

  • One-fifth of Canada’s population is foreign-born : It is important to know you are not alone as a new immigrant in Canada! Canada is a country of immigrants. 21.9% of people who live and work in Canada were not born in the country. Toronto has been called ‘the most multicultural city in the world’ and over 200 unique cultural groups reside in the city.
  • You can fast track immigration if you’re a skilled worker : Express Entry is Canada’s immigration program for skilled workers. The program aims to process new immigrants in 6 months or less.
  • Good healthcare options : Canada’s healthcare is the envy of their American neighbors to the south. It’s a tax-funded Medicare system where the government pays for people’s basic health insurance, which is then delivered by the private sector.
  • Education is top notch : When it comes to teaching their kids, the Canadians don’t mess around. In the OECD’s 2017 ranking of countries’ adult education levels (based on the percentage of 25-64 year olds with a degree), Canada came first with 56.27%.

How Safe is Canada for Immigrants

Canada is among the top countries considered to be ‘safe and stable’ for immigrants and has further improved its position as the ‘go-to’ study / live / work / invest destination because of its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, the survey suggests that countries considered to be ‘safe and stable’ are not necessarily viewed as being ‘open and welcoming.’ However, Canada is one of the top countries that are considered to be both.

In fact, Canada has introduced some measures to allow international students to travel to their desired destination. Students who wish to travel to Canada only need to be attending a college or university that has obtained approval on its COVID-19 readiness plan from the provincial government in which the institution is in. It does not matter where the student is travelling from.

The first survey was conducted in May 2020. Findings from that survey showed Canada as one of the countries who are ahead of the pack, alongside New Zealand and Australia.

Research was repeated in September 2020. Canada had improved its overall position since May, but was now competing with the United Kingdom for the top spot, instead of the Oceanic states.

Along with the federal and provincial programs for immigration that are available, the following are the biggest reasons that make Canada a great place for immigrants.

1. Economy Opportunity

In the wake of an unstable U.S. economy, many immigrants are now looking to other countries for new opportunities. Canada has been ranked as one of the most vibrant and efficient markets for labour.

Canada has the 10th largest economy in the world according to the latest GDP ranking. Though the country has a huge amount of natural resources, the economy is more service-oriented. In fact, more than 75% of Canadians are employed in the service sector according to Statistics Canada.

2. Cultural Diversity

Canada has a strong reputation for its openness to immigrants. There are no anti-immigration political parties. This underscores the progressive attitudes of Canada, and sets it apart from other destinations that immigrants might consider.

Nearly 20% of the population in Canada are of foreign origin which makes it a truly multi-cultural society. Big cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal have significant percentage of immigrant population. The diverse nature of the population indicates the inclusive nature of Canadian society.

This has influenced the world’s view of Canada. A large proportion of the world’s population recognizes Canada as a nation that respects freedoms and individual rights, welcomes immigrants, tolerates differing races and cultures, and offers a high quality of living.

3. Superior Education

Immigrant parents value a high level of education for their children. Canada’s affordable education system has contributed to its appeal to immigrants. It is considered one of the best educational systems in the world, and is easily accessible due to its affordable costs.

For parents immigrating to Canada, the high standards of its education provide future opportunities to their children that they might not otherwise have access to. Canadian diplomas and certificates are viewed by many as equivalent to those of the US.

This has increased the number of immigrant students in the country. It has increased the level of academic talent that Canadian companies look for in their own development efforts, and further stimulates a strong economy.

Immigration to Canada continues to rise, as the world recognizes the many benefits it offers. With a strong economy providing numerous opportunities and a culturally diverse population, many foreign-born citizens have reaped the rewards of immigrating to Canada. Its educational system makes it attractive to immigrants and has laid the foundation for future innovation and progress for all of Canada.

Admission requirements and credits

Each university in Canada has its own requirements for admission and transferring credits from other institutions. To learn about admission requirements for the program you want to pursue, visit the website of the university you would like to attend. Contact the university directly to find out whether your existing credits can be applied toward that program.

To study at a Canadian university, you must provide proof of your English or French language capabilities, depending on the language you choose for your studies.

  • English-language universities may require you to write a Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL).
  • French-language universities assess students individually. To learn what a certain university requires, check with the Office of the Registrar at the school you wish to attend.
